When returning from deep mining, I usually hop up the hole I came down in, placing dirt under my feet each time. But after a short while I went back to the survival one. It just dug straight down, grabbed the cores, and hopped in the lava (before I realized casual characters can teleport at any time). If you went to the abandoned mineshaft, if you didnt see an oversized iconic monster, then there will be one there you may want to kill for more shards.Īfter a day or two I made a casual character, and within an hour it went further than my survival character had. Alternatively, make spears, kill monsters with them regularly, they do really good damage early on, and drop meat a lot, which will keep you fed as well. Potatoes also last a long time before they go bad. Rice stacks and a stack of rice with a campfire means not starving easily. Run around the surface and find chests that may contain ranged weapons, which will make combat easier.Īlso plant a farm, especially rice if you can find any. Dig more shallowly, and get iron/copper to improve armor and weapons. You really should have put the 14 cores you had back in your base before digging down again for example.Īs others have said, prepare more. Also make stops to store crafting materials regularly. Take time to farm up wood, build your mining shaft with plenty of platforms, you wont fall to your death that way. Should I remake my character and start again from scratch? Now I'm really frustrated and I'm not sure if I want to go back and give it another go - it's taken me hours to get to this point and I'm still no closer to my goal than when I had started. I picked up 30 core fragments, started digging my way back up, and then died of starvation in some worm-tunnel I had been digging at some part of the sub-terrain. Having no other choice, I decided to start digging again and this time reached the core.

I looked all over but apparently had looted every box in the area. I came back to the mine, killed the monsters, looted the rest of the cores, but came up 6 short. I decided to run and ended up in a cave, but a misstep sent me careening down a very deep tunnel that I dug earlier, and I died in the middle of nowhere. Later on I realized that there's a nearby mine where those fragments can be looted - I had picked up about half of them, when I was suddenly overwhelmed by monsters.

Super cool! When I first started exploring the planet beneath my ship, I ended up digging very deeply in an attempt to find the core fragments.
